Sergio Matarraz graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Salamanca (Spain) in 2001. He then joined the Flow Cytometry Service at the same University, where he specialized in the multiparameter characterization of myeloid malignancies, particularly myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). This research culminated in the attainment of his PhD in Medicine in 2008, with a thesis on the immunophenotypic characterization of MDS, which earned him the highest distinction “Cum Laude” and the University of Salamanca Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

Currently, he is a senior postdoctoral researcher at the Cancer Research Center (University of Salamanca, Spain), where he continues his research in the characterization of myeloid malignancies, with a strong emphasis on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and MDS. His work focuses on the development of new flow cytometry tools for the automated diagnosis and monitoring of these patients by next-generation flow cytometry (NGF).

Since 2012, he has been an active member of EuroFlow, currently leading the EuroFlow AML work package. His scientific career is reflected in 78 publications in indexed scientific journals and several book chapters, with an H-index of 24. Additionally, he has participated in nearly 200 scientific meetings and courses, receiving several national and international scientific awards.
