Delfim Duarte is a physician-scientist interested in understanding ecological interactions between malignant and non-malignant hematopoietic cells and their surrounding bone marrow microenvironments. He obtained his MD at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto and did his PhD in Cristina Lo Celso’s lab at Imperial College London where he studied the interaction between acute leukemic cells and BM niches. His research program is funded by several national and international projects. He was named Young Hematologist of the Year in 2019 and was awarded the National Hematology Prize in 2021, by the Portuguese Society of Hematology. He has published several papers, including first-author and senior publications in Nature, Cell Stem Cell, Blood, Blood Advances and Leukemia. Since 2024, he is a Hematologist specialist at the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation of IPO-Porto. Since 2021, he is a Group Leader (Hematopoiesis & Microenvironments Group) at i3s.
