João Tiago Guimarães (MD in 1989, PhD in 2002) is Full Professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. He is also Diretor of the Clinical Pathology Service and Chair of the Imagiology and Lab Medicine Department at the ULS São João in Porto. He is group leader at EPIUnit (“Laboratory biomarkers for better clinical decision”), Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, and has an h-index of 32 and 4200 citations.

He is currently Chair of the Advisory Board of IPO Porto, Member of the General Council of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and corresponding member of the National Academy of Medicine of Portugal. He was President of the Clinical Pathology Board of the Portuguese Medical Association (2018-2024) and of the Protuguese Society of Laboratory Medicine (2014-2016).
